Welcome to Lara Secondary College

Lara Secondary College was established in 2003 with an initial intake of 112 Year 7 students.
In six years we have grown to a student population of 800 with extensive provision for both Middle Years and Senior Years students from years 7 – 12.
Our Vision Statement
To provide a community of care and from this, a dynamic learning environment which enables all students to develop social and work place skills, and which challenges staff and students to meet their full potential with the support of all members of the College Community.
Our values are encapsulated in our College motto which aims to support excellence in learning and student development:
- Safe: valuing diversity and each individual for their own qualities and abilities
- Secure: being treated consistently and with respect
- Known: the growth and development of self esteem and self confidence
- Noticed: acknowledging effort and celebrating successes
Our learning program is student centered, with a key focus of the College being the building and maintenance of positive relationships to ensure that individual student learning is the best it can be.
This is achieved through the provision of an extensive pastoral care program, structuring of the program in large blocks of time, where the number of teachers students meet on a weekly basis is minimized and therefore strong and meaningful relationships are established between teachers and their students.
The learning aims to be authentic, task based and engaging for students of all abilities.
A new school with a current multi million dollar building program provides the College with excellent physical resources. These support and enhance our excellent learning programs. Our programs include the provision of a broad range of opportunities for enrichment and extension of all students and involvement in a wide range of sporting challenges.
Our extra curricula programs include debating, a social justice group supporting communities in developing countries, a sister school relationship with schools in Indonesia and Japan, opportunities for overseas trips, debating, Rock Eisteddfod, Arts festival, music program and much more.
Our CONNECTIONS program designed specifically to engage year 9 students has been recognized through DEECD excellence awards and the building of a new $6 million dollar Middle Years wing will enable a new and innovative approach to the teaching of students in Years 7 and 8 based on world best practice.
