Students of 9D, 9E and 9F arrived at Lara Station early on the morning of Tuesday 8th November for the second of our two Urban Camps. The group was very keen to get going as they had heard about all of the exciting things the first Urban Camp group got to participate in. Once we dropped our bags off at Nomads Hostel we then split into our allocated groups for our first activities. The Wipeout course at MSAC was again a big hit and Mr Dougherty and Mr Wang taught the students some slick ice-skating moves at O’Brien Group Arena. After a big feed at Universal Restaurant in Lygon Street, three groups then took each other on at Ten Pin Bowling, with Dion Charleston top scoring. The Food and Entertainment group tried many different cuisines throughout China Town and the CBD, before heading back to the hostel for a well earned rest.
The students did Lara Secondary College proud with their behavior over the next two days. The feedback from many members of the public such as the MCG tour guides, Vline conductors, and the Melbourne Gaol guides was extremely positive about the way our groups conducted themselves. They were enthusiastic and enjoyed creating their own art stencils, watching documentaries in 3D at the Imax Cinema, and participating in boxing and a spin class at a city gym. Students spent this week demonstrating what have they learnt from these experiences through their Round Table presentations, where they compared many aspects of Melbourne and Geelong.
