Bookclub Excursion

On Thursday 8th October the Spine Crackers went on an excursion to Melbourne and participated in a book making workshop at the State Library. Afterwards we had lunch, visited some book shops, enjoyed the sights and the sunshine.

PEER MENTORING WITH FLINDERS KINDERGARTEN

During Term 3 the Connections Peer Mentoring group have been working with Lara Primary School and Flinders Kindergarten by helping the students with various activities that involve, reading, writing, creating, numeracy and games.

Lake Mountain Ski Trip

On the 4th of September our Year 11 Outdoor education class headed off to Lake Mountain for a day of Cross Country Skiing. After a very early start at 5am we arrived at Marysville at 8:15 and caught the shuttle bus up to the ski fields. Five years after the Black Saturday fires it is still a very different place with the vegetation on the top of the mountain still only around a metre high.

Literacy and Numeracy Week 2015

In Week 8, Lara Secondary College celebrated National Literacy and Numeracy week. Many students and staff participated in a variety of activities. Year 7 and 8 students competed in class games and activities related to Numeracy and Literacy skills. With exciting prizes to be won the students were extremely enthusiastic about winning.

The Parents and Friends Group at Lara Secondary College will be holding their annual VCE BOOK SALE on Tuesday 1st December from 1pm – 4pm at the school.

Books may be dropped off to the school in the week beginning Monday 23rd November to Friday 27th November to the school office or to Clive Allen-Paisley. All books will need to have labels attached with the contact details of the seller.

Sensational Supercats at Lara Secondary College

Over the past two weeks, a number of Year 9 Physical Education classes have had the opportunity to take part in a training session run by coaches and players from the Geelong Supercats. This session was used to reinforce the skills and knowledge taught in our Basketball unit in which students were required to not only participate in a basketball competition, but also umpire and score the games. August 14th to 21st was National Science Week and at Lara Secondary College, students and staff celebrated with a range of interesting, challenging and yummy activities. Fitting in with this years theme, “The Science of Light”, our Years 7 and 8 students were entertained by the Journeyman’s “Cosmo-dome”, a seven metre diameter, 4 metre high Mobile Planetarium.
