2017 LSC Athletics Carnival

27 March 2017

Last week our annual Athletics Carnival was held. The athletes (and officials) were in good spirits despite the wet weather, and it didn’t seem to discourage many from running, jumping and throwing to the best of their ability. A huge thank-you again to our Sports Coordinator Aaron Malcolm, for his work in the lead-up to and on the day.

YEAR 9 CONNECTIONS: Personal Challenges

It’s been an exciting term for Year 9 students involved in the Connections Personal Challenge program with each TLC group participating in a series of adventure-based activities designed to take students outside of their comfort zone and further develop skills in teamwork, leadership, organisation, persistence and self-management. Year 10 Fit To Play – Cricket Victoria

Cricket Victoria conducted a training session with our Year 10 Fit to Play students in February in order to give them an opportunity to become involved in junior cricket in the local community. Students who were interested were able to pursue the opportunity of becoming involved in junior cricket with the local primary schools. Farewell to our staff member Rob Irvin

This week we say farewell to a long standing member of the Lara Secondary College community.

Celebrating Student Success

Pako Fest is a huge celebration of everything multicultural, from the official welcoming with the traditional owners of our land, the Wathaurong People, to the 50 plus community and ethnic groups that take part through the street parade, dance groups, foods stalls and live music performances.

 This year Kayla T from Year 7 had the fantastic experience of joining in the festival representing the Wathaurong Tribe.

Lara Secondary and the Geelong Kokoda Youth Program

We were very fortunate to have three students nominated to interview for a very special opportunity to trek the Kokoda track. Well done to Zac D,  Jai B, and Owen H in Year 10 for their nominations to be involved in such a prestigious program.  This is a great achievement in itself.

2017 LSC Swimming Carnival

This week we enjoyed our first whole school event when the annual Swimming Carnival was held. Lara Swimming Pool was awash with students dressed in the house colours of Serendip, Hovell, You Yangs and Flinders. A very special welcome to our new families at Year 7. The Year 7 group has had a very smooth start to the year, and this is reflective of the hard work by staff at our local Primary Schools, staff at Lara Secondary College and our families in supporting students during this very important transition phase.
