Prospective students, parents and friends are invited to attend our Information Evening and discover the outstanding opportunities offered at Lara Secondary College.
This week we enjoyed our first whole school event when the annual Swimming Carnival was held. Lara Swimming Pool was awash with students dressed in the house colours of Serendip, Hovell, You Yangs and Flinders. It was fantastic to see so many students participating in events and cheering on their teammates. A full report will appear in the next newsletter, but I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge our Sports Coordinator Aaron Malcolm, for all of his hard work and organisation …
A very special welcome to our new families at Year 7. The Year 7 group has had a very smooth start to the year, and this is reflective of the hard work by staff at our local Primary Schools, staff at Lara Secondary College and our families in supporting students during this very important transition phase. We would also like to extend a warm welcome to those families who have joined us in other year levels.
In a recent College Times issue we celebrated Year 7 Creative Writing student Lily S. having her story published in the August Edition of “Oz Kids In Print”. Since then Lily has won a writers award for her short story “Untitled”.
On the 26th of November, Glenda Porter and Debbie Sartori were kindly invited by the Children’s Charity Network to attend the awards night held in Melbourne and had the pleasure of being on Lily’s table with her family and friends. The winning art works on displ…
Year 7 and 8 students in Mr Wang’s ELO China 101 learned basic Chinese language and experienced Chinese culture and history in the class. By the end of Semester 2, students developed their skills in Chinese arts by practicing Chinese calligraphy with traditional Chinese writing brushes and ink. They also enjoyed the tasty Chinese dumplings made by themselves.

They have made multiple bench seats each with a personal design as well as wooden stools, school lockers, dog houses, planter boxes, and anything that could be imagined. The highlight was the centrepiece dining table!
The HOL team sourced raw pallets from Geelong Brush Company and then tirelessly prepared the pallets into workable timber to create their masterpieces.

Students of 9D, 9E and 9F arrived at Lara Station early on the morning of Tuesday 8th November for the second of our two Urban Camps. The group was very keen to get going as they had heard about all of the exciting things the first Urban Camp group got to participate in. Once we dropped our bags off at Nomads Hostel we then split into our allocated groups for our first activities. The Wipeout course at MSAC was again a big hit and Mr Dougherty and Mr Wang taught the students some slick ice-skat…
This week's celebrations included the dunking of teachers for charity. Students raised $1495 dollars for charities that were nominated by each house with the prize being the “dunking” of nominated teachers. Well done to our House Leader, Mr Malcolm for the organisation of this event with our SRC - clearly enjoyed a lot more by the students than the teachers who were totally saturated in ice cold water by our house captains for 2017.
Students of 9A, 9B and 9C arrived at Lara Station early on the morning of Tuesday 25th October for the first of our two Urban Camps. There was a lot of excitement in the air and once we got to Nomads Backpackers in Melbourne and dropped off our bags, we split up into separate groups to go and participate in the first of our activities. There was a lot of fun swimming and completing the Wipeout course at MSAC, watching a movie at IMAX, and ice-skating at O’Brien Group Arena. Three groups then …
