2016 Swimming Sports

With perfect weather and fabulous house outfits being worn, the swimming sports were hotly contested for most of the day. It was a great opportunity to remind students that participation in house events. Hovell won the overall competition and had competitors in nearly every event. A fabulous effort Hovell!

Halloween Fundraiser Success

The Australian Children’s Music Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that is dedicated to educating, motivating and inspiring disadvantaged children through providing free, long term weekly music programs.

Year 9 Urban Camp

We have just seen the conclusion of our second and final Year 9 Urban City Camp. Students spent 3 days living in the city, immersing themselves in the city culture. Students were placed into groups based on their interests, which they have been participating in during Connections days.

After an intense build up that required a huge amount of organisation and many professional discussions between the Lara Secondary staff and certain members of the local Geelong community, the graduation was sorted!

Bookclub Excursion

On Thursday 8th October the Spine Crackers went on an excursion to Melbourne and participated in a book making workshop at the State Library. Afterwards we had lunch, visited some book shops, enjoyed the sights and the sunshine.

During Term 3 the Connections Peer Mentoring group have been working with Lara Primary School and Flinders Kindergarten by helping the students with various activities that involve, reading, writing, creating, numeracy and games.

Lake Mountain Ski Trip

On the 4th of September our Year 11 Outdoor education class headed off to Lake Mountain for a day of Cross Country Skiing. After a very early start at 5am we arrived at Marysville at 8:15 and caught the shuttle bus up to the ski fields. Five years after the Black Saturday fires it is still a very different place with the vegetation on the top of the mountain still only around a metre high.

Literacy and Numeracy Week 2015

In Week 8, Lara Secondary College celebrated National Literacy and Numeracy week. Many students and staff participated in a variety of activities. Year 7 and 8 students competed in class games and activities related to Numeracy and Literacy skills. With exciting prizes to be won the students were extremely enthusiastic about winning.
