Your Choices in Years 10, 11 and 12.

Lara Secondary College is committed to providing extensive programs for all students continuing their post compulsory education. 

In years 11 and 12 students are able to choose either the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).  Both of these certificates may include Certificate I, II or III credentials through a number of Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses offered in partnership with Corio Bay Senior College and the Gorgon TAFE. 

Some students may also undertake a School Based Apprenticeship (SbA). 

Year 10 students are also given the opportunity to apply to do a VCE study, start a VET course or a School Based Apprenticeship.  In choosing a Year 10 program students should be planning not just for one year, but also for following years.  They should take into account their strengths and weaknesses and plans for a career or further education. 

In selecting subjects for years 11 and 12, full consideration must be given to their intended pathway beyond secondary college; this may include University, TAFE, apprenticeships/traineeships or employment.

Students can obtain advice regarding pathway planning to a particular career.  They are encouraged to make full use of the Careers Centre and to explore all options, discussing any issues that arise with their TLC teacher or the Careers Advisor. 

Subject choice at Years 11 and 12 may be critical depending on your chosen career pathway.

Year 12 students will be provided with a great deal of support in making choices for post-secondary options, particularly with Tertiary applications (University and TAFE) through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) system.

Course counselling for all students will take place in term 3, involving Pathways teachers, parents and students.
