Lara Secondary College is committed to supporting your child in being successful at school. We have introduced a reading intervention program called MacqLit, a phonics instruction program, for students who have been identified as being in need of additional support in their reading.
Research has indicated that a structured, sequenced and explicit approach to phonics instruction best supports student progression. The MacqLit program includes all the key components necessary for effective reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
Students are selected for this program based on a range of historic reading assessment data. Students who are identified to be several years below expected level are placed in a small group with students who have similar reading needs to them. These groups spend 4 sessions a week with a literacy expert to complete the MacqLit program.
Literacy skills underpin all learning and we know that students need the building blocks of the English language to be successful in all their school subjects and beyond.
