Lara Secondary College introduced Quicksmart also known as Numeracy Intervention Program.It is a framework with short and targeted lesson components for educators to work through with their students. Quick smart is an evidence-based basic skills intervention program designed for middle-school students who experience persistent difficulties in literacy and/or numeracy. The aim of Quick Smart is to enable students to become automatic (quick) in their basic skills in order to move onto more complex problem-solving skills (smart).
The programs have been implemented in over 1,650 Australian schools and come with ready-to-use physical and digital resources, as well as professional development training and ongoing support. Lara Secondary College is proudly one of these schools providing its students with additional support. They are suitable for learners in years 7 to 9, whose skill levels are below the national minimum standard.
Its commencement steps include Pre-testing by our Qualified staff and dividing students in groups based on their learning capacity. Timetables are uploaded on Compass and two to three sessions are delivered per week for the students.
It was introduced in the beginning of 2024 and a number of students have benefitted from this intervention program. We as a team of Lara Secondary College are looking forward to providing support to our students through this Numeracy Intervention Program and help them achieve their goals in senior years.
