Lara Secondary College is pleased to announce the 2026 Rugby Academy Program (available to both male and female students) as part of the Year 7-12 curriculum for 2026
Our Rugby Coach, Ephraim Taukafa is a 33-capped international player, who has been to three world cups with Tonga and played over 200 professional matches in New Zealand, England and France.

Course Outline - Junior (Year 7-9)
The Junior Rugby Union Academy class involves:
- Participation in two sessions per week (74 mins each)
- High level Rugby Union training sessions facilitated by our new Director of Rugby Ephraim Taukafa
- Theory classroom lessons on topics relating to rugby and high-level sport
- Learning units include:
- Goal Setting and Healthy Habits
- Nutrition for Life
- Officiating
- Strong Mind Strong Athlete
- Smart Rugby
Course Outline - Senior (Year 10-12)
The Senior Rugby Union Academy class involves:
- High level Rugby Union training sessions facilitated by our new Director of Rugby Ephraim Taukafa
- Theory classroom lessons on topics relating to rugby and high-level sport
- First year of a three year Certificate III in Sport and Recreation
- First Aid Certificate Qualification
- One level 3 VCE unit
- Three periods per week; two practical training sessions and one theory session
